13th February. With this event being sold out before the end of January it was 'fingers crossed' that last month's extreme weather didn't return. Fortunately it stayed nearer the coast this month and the full house just couldn't wait for STRUCK IT RICH to get our 'Valentines' evening underway. The 'hearts' decorating the hall & stage set the scene for Danny to 'say it with flowers' by handing out a red rose to each of the ladies as they arrived.
This long established Kent based friendly family band needed little introduction to most of our audience, as many have seen them at numerous venues around the county even though this was their first time here for several years. Between them Sandie, John, Ed and Bev produce the distinctive Struck It Rich sound formed from a fusion of Sandie's vocal skills, well worked
harmonies and a skilful and varied mix of many instruments such as pedal steel guitar, keyboard, guitars, banjo, dobro, slide guitar, mandolin and drums. They had a special offer on their CDs 'buy one for the price of two and get one free'. Regardless of this dubious offer, as a purchaser of a couple of their previous albums, I can say that their studio produced CDs are of very good quality, far superior to some I have bought from other British artistes.
Cards were signed for Vern and Peter, both ill in hospital. Vern is co-founder of the club and even if you don't know Peter many will have seen his photo (dancing with Barbara) featured in adverts for Ann Hinder's Burstin Hotel country music festivals. Our best wishes go to both of them. In addition to the usual club raffle a special raffle for a heart-shaped cake made by Wendy and a bottle of whisky donated by Alan raised £116 for the Heart of Kent Hospice. A good crowd from the Best of British, including Peter, attended the SC Magazine Anniversary Show at Frimley on Feb 6th. Congratulations to Adge and everyone involved for putting on such an enjoyable show which didn't seem to suffer from being let down by Georgette Jones. Mike
