New Years Eve - Best of British PDF Print E-mail

Joe D Rose Band Dec 31st.

THE JOE D ROSE BAND provided a fitting finale to 2009 at the Best of British CMC and after we had welcomed in the New Year they continued to entertain us until John had to call time on the celebrations.

It would be harder to find a friendlier, smarter and more flexible bunch of musicians than Joe (lead vocals, keyboard & rhythm guitar), Keith (base guitar & harmonies), Reg (drums & harmonies) and Mark (lead guitar & vocals). Thanks guys for your excellent contribution to such an enjoyable conclusion to another successful year.

The evening began with the trilogy, performed in remembrance of the dead of all wars under all flags, including our troops who have given their lives in Afghanistan.

It was also a time to remember those known to us, especially the country gentleman Steve Williams (Mr Rough Justice) who died in November.

After that it was time to make the most of the warm atmosphere in the hall - in stark contrast to the winter chill outside. Hosts Mary & John provided nibbles for everyone, party poppers, blowers, balloons (including the flying ones that caused much amusement) etc. as well as bubbly at midnight.

Gamblers During a break Mary taught us an easy, progressive, partner dance and later we had a large bunch of posers lined up for a photo for our website, and very smart the men looked in their Gambler suits. No sooner had the smoke from the midnight gunfire cleared away and it was time to go but not before Ron took the microphone to speak for us all in thanking John & Mary, and their helpers for all their efforts.

There is a varied programme for 2010 which should please everyone and John gave us some good news when he announced that despite another increase in hall charges the price of admission would be kept at £5 provided the current good level of support continues.

On a sadder note, it was noticed that one of our long-standing supporters, Eileen, had not arrived as expected and two of our members drove to her home only to find that she had collapsed. Thanks to this caring act Eileen is now receiving treatment for pneumonia in hospital and we all wish her a speedy recovery.

Mike
